I'm also putting out a newsletter to the forums this week - this info will be included to make sure everyone takes note. Can you get back to me with regards to Doris meeting forum chairs in Jan (24 or 25) in Sutton. Its really important that this meeting takes place with all the problems we will be having to face in 2011 its essential that forums work together more. I have also attached the document in Word along with the letter we sent to every elected Councillor in Lewisham plus our compressed Annual Report). Maureen, I am sending this to you with the thought that the GLPA may be able to draw attention to what we are trying to do in a forthcoming edition of The Greater London Pensioner. Call me if you wish to discuss further. Kind regards Kerry Lewisham Pensioners Forum Dear Fellow London Pensioners Forum RE: Protecting Services & Taking a Stand Please find attached a copy of the letter that Lewisham Pensioners Forum recently sent to every elected Councillor in Lewisham (please also find attached a copy of our Annual Report sent with the letter which we hope you will find informative). The thrust of our letter was to call on Councillors of all colours to make a stand and oppose cuts that threaten essential services in the Borough and put pressure on the Local Authorities Association to similarly take a stand and say no to cuts. The purpose of this letter which we are sending to Forum's across London is to ask you to do the same. If we unite then we can bring about change. We are already witnessing the reality of cuts unfolding before us but we suspect that this is just the tip of the iceberg; see the GLF's recent correspondence on cuts imposed on the Taxicard scheme, reports such as this are set to multiply daily as we hear of measures taken by local authorities across the borough to make savings, closing libraries, increasing charges for Adult Social Care, cutting adult social care, closing day centres, privatising services to reduce cost allowing private companies to put profit before quality care, cutting public toilets, adult education and leisure facilities. These are deeply worrying times for everyone - look at our young people taking to the streets to protect the right to decent education for everyone not just those that can afford it. At the same time there are no jobs for our young, no apprenticeships, no affordable housing that they can move into. Please join us, write to your councillors ask them to come together with other Borough's and unite to take a stand reminding them they you did not elect them to cut the services that your group works to protect and ask them to put pressure on the Chair of the Local Authorities Association Sir Steve Bullock to turn and oppose the damaging measures of the coalition government.
